I'm Mike Seta. I've been carving up guitars since 1992, when I took my prized USA Fender Strat Plus Deluxe to the bandsaw to create the original Setacaster. Since then, I've carved, painted, or otherwise modified dozens of guitar bodies that are now in the hands of guitarists around the world. I'm a gigging musician as well, so I understand how important tone, playability and comfort are to every guitarist.
ABOUT THE GUITARS
While I'm extremely knowledgeable about guitars, I'm not a luthier. I don't make any of my bodies from scratch. Instead, I modify quality bodies from companies like Warmoth®, Fender®, Allparts® and more into my one-of-a-kind creations. I generally use standard woods like alder and ash, but custom orders can be of any tonewood desired.
DOES IT AFFECT THE TONE?
In all but my most extreme designs, not enough wood is removed to even begin to noticeably affect the tone of the guitar. I've found that while the type of wood influences the tone, the total mass of the body has much less impact. And just as two identical Strats will not sound exactly alike, every body I create will have its own unique sonic signature. But rest assured, with everything else being equal (pickups, neck, hardware, etc.), a body from Seta Guitars will sound like any other guitar you're used to. In addition, critical areas of the guitar (like where the bridge is mounted) stay untouched to ensure proper playability.
BUILT FOR COMFORT
Special care is taken so that none of the designs interfere with the way you play. There are no sharp edges rubbing on your forearm or areas for your fingers to get caught while strumming.
PROCESSES AND FINISHES
All bodies from Seta Guitars are made one by one, by me, by hand. I use a combination of routers, roto tools, chisels, knives and lots of hand-sanding to achieve the desired effect. Paints and stains are typical to those used throughout the industry, and finishes vary from traditional lacquer to heavy-duty poly.
